Chemistry has played a role in the scaling of silicon circuits for the past 50 years, from the invention of the transistor at Bell Labs (a device measured in inches) to current devices found in computers that have transistors with features as small as 130 nanometers. Gallium is a pretty great stunt double. This element has a similar structure to silicon, so it's widely used in the electronics industry.
